Creating a Web Page - Is it worth the effort?

 I am not completely convinced that a web page will be worth the time and effort not to mention the cost!

No matter what they say about AI making a web page for you in 20 seconds, it's  just not true. 

Yes, it will generate a web page but it's  not actually any good as it still needs you to input your information, your thoughts, your style, influences, techniques and all the photos of your work. That, my dear readers is what takes time, effort and money. Yes, money. As a web page is not at all free. Even if you spend hours & hours creating a page with the help of AI, you still have to buy your domain, pay for hosting, pay for extras, so it is not free at all. After that you have to spend hours posting your work on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, linkedin and any other social media that you can think of. 

It doesn't mean you will sell anything either. In fact your ideas and style can easily be copied. And it's  very difficult to control and police your work. How can you possible find out - apart by chance - if someone is using your work as a basis for their own work. Stealing your ideas. If you do happen to find out. Well, what do you do? Take them to court? Harass them? Publish their name on social media? 

Are you better off with a blog? A blog is free. Totally free. It gets seen by people all over the world. 

You get feed back from a blog. You can easily upload lots of photos of your work on a blog and link a blog to your social media pages. 

What are your thoughts? 

Have you found that a blog is better than a web page or vice versa?Here is one of my recent boxes. I covered the box that I made with paper from my Gel prints and the inside with old music paper. The texture on the gel print was made using baking soda!It makes a really nice grainy texture which I love. What do you think?

Art Style - A Certain Modus Operandi or Just Unvaried

Should artists stay with the same style of painting/drawing/ etc. or should they explore new styles and techniques and push the boundaries? How many times have you looked at a painting and you know exactly who painted it. I don't mean a well known painting but a work that you haven't seen before or just vaguely know it but yet you can immediately identify the artist.  So, should artists stay with what they do best and what sells best or should they stick their neck out and try something totally different? I think they should go for the latter. I understand why many go for the first approach. We all have to live and pay the bills so naturally if one style sells well and gets popular it must be very difficult to turn ones back on it and try a new style. However, I believe many successful artists go for the easy way out and churn similar work as they know it's what the gallery wants and it's what sells.  But is that not boring? Protect your Art

Whether you are an artist or a collector you need to protect your art. Not just from theft, but from fire, water damage, light, heat, damp etc.  Art works come in many forms, from stone, metal, canvas, paper, plastic, fabric, ceramic, glass, plastic and combinations of all those.  Metal and stone my be left outside but then you need to think about security. Is it on a solid surface and won't topple over? Can it easily be lifted and therefore "lifted"? Glass and ceramics also need to be on a solid surface to avoid risk of breakage and damage. Either put them in a display case or keep them away from children, dogs, cats and all clumsy adults.  Works on canvas, paintings, paper art including photography should be correctly attached to a wall to avoid falling. A light painting will suffer damage to the stretcher and could tear if it falls even a short distance.  If your works are very valuable they should also be screwed to the wall and not just hung.
